This
website was developed by Texas Cooperative Extension for the dissemination of information
from a joint project with American Farmland Trust.
Project
Purpose: This project was undertaken to provide critical
data and analysis of Texas land trends pertaining to ecological, economic,
and demographic trends on Texas 144 million acres of privately owned land.
Data was collected, combined and analyzed to provide baseline data on
the current status of the Texas landscape. This trend data and analysis
can be used to explore the current landuse trends and implications as
well as hypothesize the future trends and landuse's under different ecological,
political, demographic, and economic impacts.
Project Products:
There are four products produced as a result of this project
- Website
- this is the current website that you are visiting. It is developed
to provide a starting point for data exploration. It contains a data
mining page that contains trend data for economic and demographic text
data. In addition, it contains a GIS mapping page that spatially depicts
the trends as well as allows the user to layer other data and information
onto the trend data to seek a better understanding of the trends.
- Stand-alone
data tool - this tool is developed in Microsoft Access
and is used as a stand-alone data tool to be installed on desktop computers.
It contains more detailed data on land use trends and enables a user
to take a more expansive look at market, economic, and demographic forces
driving Texas land use.
- Reports
- several reports were produced as a result of this project. Follow
the links at the bottom of the page to download and browse the reports.
- Simulation
model - an exploritory simulation model was developed
to produce hypothetical land use trends and changes depending on different
scenarios. This model allowed for the simulation of political impacts
on the current status of land use patterns. More information about the
model can be found through the reports and from the contact information
for the project team.
