Texas' Rural Lands: Past, Present, and Future
Texas' rural lands are changing both in land use
trends and demographics. This project takes an in-depth look at the driving forces behind land change use and turnover. Aspects
of this project focus on the change from productive land use to consumptive land use.
Land Fragmentation
The landscape of Texas is changing. Texas leads all other states in the loss of rural farming and ranching land. About 80 percent of Texas' farms and ranches are less then 500 acres. Overall landowner numbers are increasing while property size is decreasing. If you'd like to know more about the issues facing Texan's, you can access the Fragmented Lands brochure through this PDF link, or you can contact the Wildlife and Fisheries Extension program at 979-845-7471 to request a copy. Several other projects are currently focused on this topic.
